Pixel Art

For maths we have been learning about area and square units. We combined maths and art to create our pixel art self-portraits.

Using square units we created a likeness of ourselves then used larger squares to create bigger artworks.

We also wrote in te reo Maori how many square it took to create each of our features.

Here are some of our artworks.

  1. Kia ora Te Hiringa,
TUMEKE! I love your pixel art. You all look like Minecraft characters:-) Did you cut out all of the squares? That would have taken some time! How many squares did you use to create your pixel art?

    1. Kia Ora Tania its Matiu from Te hiringa here

We do look little like Minecraft characters. It did take some time, my pixel art took about half an hour, just to stick all the squares on the piece of paper. My pixel art took 104 squares.

I really like the way that you have been doing some art in your classroom. These pictures remind me of Mincraft. Maybe next time you could add the steps that you went through to make these pieces of art.

    Well done.

  3. Hi guys, It is Thom here from yaldhurst school.
I love that you are combining math and art, and what a wonderful way to do it. Another good thing is that some of you guys will be learning new things with square units. I love how you are involving te reo in this activity because te reo is a big part of being a kiwi (new zealander). All the people look so great.
