The story of our scarecrow/ tane whakamataku, Maui.

We were very excited about making our tane whakamataku/scarecrow. Our ideas for same came from a purakau/legend that Whaea Heneriata read to us, ko Maui me nga manu/ Maui and the birds. After slowing the Sun/Tama-nui-te-ra, Maui was very thirsty and asked two manu/birds if they could fetch wai maori/fresh water. However, they refused and Maui punished them. This, together with Maui's relationship with manu/birds i.e. turning himself into a kereru/wood pigeon, and the cause of his eventual death by the sound of a _______,  are reasons why we chose Maui as our scarecrow to represent our unique identity within Te Kura Matua o Mawhera / Grey Main School, being a  Maori/English bilingual class/whanau.

If you can name which manu/bird caused Maui's death, come to room 2 immediately to tell us, and receive a tiakarete. There is only one so be quick!!!

Nga mihi ano hoki ki a Matua Emile korua ko Te Ora ma ta korua awhina : )
